Locus is held in the picturesque hilltop Puglia village of Locorotondo usually in the last week of July and first week of August. The festival offers visitors a jam-packed schedule of jazz music events that involve the participation of some of the world’s leading jazz exponents.
I have never been a fan of Jazz music so had little or no expectations when coming to Locus this year. I am pleased to tell you that Locus more than exceeded my expectations. I came for one weekend and had the pleasure of listening to the ridiculously talented Laura Mvula followed by the new king of the jazz, Mr Gregory Porter.
Porter is a fusion cocktail of jazz and soul and the hair on my back stands up still remembering the performance of his hit song ‘Laura’ finishing off with a rousing soulful rendition of Nat King Cole’s ‘Mona Lisa.’ The bar was definitely raised this year and I am keen to see what Locus has instore for next year. Plus worth remembering, that is free to attend this festival.
